Convergence to equilibrium in Wasserstein distance for Fokker-Planck equations

We describe conditions on non-gradient drift diffusion Fokker-Planck equations for its solutions to converge to equilibrium with a uniform exponential rate in Wasserstein distance. This asymptotic behaviour is related to a functional inequality, which links the distance with its dissipation and ensures a spectral gap in Wasserstein distance. We give practical criteria for this inequality and co...

Critical Thresholds in 1d Euler Equations with Nonlocal Forces

We study the critical thresholds for the compressible pressureless Euler equations with pairwise attractive or repulsive interaction forces and non-local alignment forces in velocity in one dimension. We provide a complete description for the critical threshold to the system without interaction forces leading to a sharp dichotomy condition between global in time existence or finite-time blow-up...

Convergence Rate for Compressible Euler Equations with Damping and Vacuum

We study the asymptotic behavior of L∞ weak-entropy solutions to the compressible Euler equations with damping and vacuum. Previous works on this topic are mainly concerned with the case away from the vacuum and small initial data. In the present paper, we prove that the entropy-weak solution strongly converges to the similarity solution of the porous media equations in L(R) (2 p < ∞) with deca...

Non-monotone Convergence in the Quadratic Wasserstein Distance

We give an easy counter-example to Problem 7.20 from C. Villani’s book on mass transport: in general, the quadratic Wasserstein distance between n-fold normalized convolutions of two given measures fails to decrease monotonically. We use the terminology and notation from [5]. For Borel measures μ, ν on R we define the quadratic Wasserstein distance T (μ, ν) := inf (X,Y ) E [ ‖X − Y ‖ ] where ‖ ...

Convergence of compressible Euler–Poisson equations to incompressible type Euler equations

In this paper, we study the convergence of time-dependent Euler–Poisson equations to incompressible type Euler equations via the quasi-neutral limit. The local existence of smooth solutions to the limit equations is proved by an iterative scheme. The method of asymptotic expansion and the symmetric hyperbolic property of the systems are used to justify the convergence of the limit.
